Shirts, ties and holey shoes

School was a drag today – had to be there at 7.30 only to perform one measly song over an hour later at school assembly. It was just a pain in the arse to be forced to set up so early in the gym only to sit through the school choir and school auditioned choir rehearse. Both groups performed before us (the stage band) at random intervals to reluctant applause, but I’m quite proud to say that we received an enthusiastic and lengthy applause, and I later received “good bass playing!” and “well done”s throughout the day. Unfortunately, other than that (and the mischief I got into with Euan in a music practise room), school sucked and I was counting down the minutes until the end of every period the minute I set foot in it. I should really get on top of my studies and bother to understand the concepts I’m getting taught in maths, instead of dozing off, glancing out the window and chatting to Paul.

The only things I consider myself to have achieved today are:

  • making up a convincing 4-8 bars of a bass line whilst playing “In A Mellow Tone” by Duke Ellington with the stage band, when I got lost after looking around the gym (haha).
  • sorting out – purchasing, actually – my concert band uniform, which consists of the senior girls’ long uniform skirt (technically I wouldn’t wear it at school until next year), and a school tie.
  • and, most importantly, booking my restricted driver’s license test, which is at 7am next Friday. I’d better pass. I will pass.

Back from hibernation

June 12th, 2007 — 12:14pm

The 16th birthday bash was awesome; could’ve been better, but then again, everything in life potentially could. So basically I’ve been living parent-less for the past 2 (almost, if not 3?) weeks with a cousin and Liv, and it’s been a hell hole here. Mum’s finally returned from her trip overseas, which means I no longer have to lug my bass and hockey gear to and from school – which entails going up (and down) an annoying large, steep hill in both ways. I think I’ll blame my inactivity (both on and offline) to my daily exhaustion and mental incapacity.

On a completely different note, it’s been one and a half months with Euan… and it’s been beyond fantastic. That boy has me hooked and smitten. Urrgh at seeing craploads of people from concert band and school when we went to see POTC 3 last, last weekend; we just hope Mr. Weeks doesn’t find out, or else “band camp” at Palmerston North in August for the North Island Comp will be a very painful experience.
