You and me in the photobooth, waiting for the flash, close the curtain urgently

I’d totally forgotten about my plight with these shortbread cookies until I was cleaning out the memory card and found photos which my mum took of them. These were the nicest batch, and dare I say, my batch that I’d mixed from scratched and made myself. I know, I know, shortbread is freaking easy to make, but it was more the fact that I actually went to the effort of making them that’s really worth something – I’m really lazy and generally don’t enjoy much baking/cooking, etc…
Anyway, the story behind these Christmas shortbread cookies was that I’d made them to give to friends who I simply couldn’t afford to buy Christmas presents for. The problem was, at some point, mum took over mixing the ingredients, and she’d doubled all the ingredients except the flour! But being the amazing cook she is (and me the shitty one), she didn’t like the idea of me entertaining the idea that perhaps she’d done something wrong in the process, as the mix was just faaar too soft to even cut up! Thus began the tedious task of refrigerating them back and forth until I had finally shaped them all and baked them. It wasn’t until much later that she suddenly had a lightbulb moment and went “OH…” haha.
Those who managed to eat some in the end said they were good anyway; but I felt a little bad that there were many friends I’d failed to deliver to, just because we were never home when I was free or had the shortbread with me!
In other matters, tomorrow I’m driving down with a friend, my sister and her friend to Raglan for a couple of nights. We’ll be camping at the local holiday park, and who knows, I might even brave it out and attempt to surf. Maybe. I’ve always wished I could surf… although unfortunately the weather at the moment isn’t looking too fantastic, I’m just hoping it clears up soon, but it’s a guaranteed good trip in general! In fact, this is shaping up to be an exciting week overall: Tues-Thurs is Raglan, Thursday night I will be photographing the Peaches gig (I’m actually quite gutted that I’m missing out on The Mint Chicks because it’s on the same night), and Friday will entail about 14hours of photographing Auckland’s Big Day Out. Not to mention I can’t get out of shifts at work for both Saturday and Sunday…
To be honest, I just can’t wait to see what whacky shots we come up with on the trip and how good proper stage lighting will make my gig photos; so please, please, please all have your fingers and toes crossed for me that my sore throat gets better ASAP!

That road trip with the camping, photos, and driving… that’s what I want to do with my life. However I need to find someone who will pay me to do it first
And the fact that you’re in New Zealand makes everything that much better!

Those cookies look cute and yummy. Your mom forgetting to double the flour sounds a lot like my mom!
I hope you feel better soon so you can enjoy your trip!

Haha the one time I tried making cookies, they formed as one, and I didn’t take enough time trying to cool the big cookie so it ended up being like a sponge cake. I liked it anyway ahha. I’m not that much of a cook either but I just bought a vegetarian based cook book and I am quite excited to try out the recipes. Have fun camping!

Don’t worry; I got your comment.
I needed to approve it… WordPress was a bit weird.
Nevertheless if I really did lose your comment I would have appreciated it anyway. :3
I’d love to blow some heat over! New Zealand sounds like a lovely place to visit though. I catch a lot of public transport – I think it would be hard for me to get used to driving. XP
Oooh, first year uni right? Good luck! ^^
I hope your throat gets better. I seriously hate sore throats. They can get really bad. At the moment I have ulcers on the inside of my lip – they hurt like hell!
I’m sure you’ll get some amazing shots. I hope you have fun!
When cooking goes wrong it sort of amuses me. It either goes really bad, or it goes bad that it makes you laugh. XD But you learn from mistakes! My mum has made a lot of mistakes in cooking I realise – but she’s a great cook.
This one time I made muffins and put too much butter and egg but they were DELICIOUS because we were making savoury ones.

I know what you mean, the whole affiliate thing was too much, I’d rather just link people I keep in contact with the most, and it’s my choice to remove them or add them as I please lol.
yummy.. those looks really good! lol. haha aww, we all make mistakes
, I remember one time a friend and I were making cookies and I did it sooo wrong! It said to add X amount of sugar, and I put the same number it said, just a different measurement
lol.
I hope you had fun

Ah no, sorry to hear the cookies didn’t turn out quite as you’d expected. But the thought was there, so I’m sure your friends appreciated it none the less. If it helps, they look really delicious!

Aww, that’s a really nice gift idea for your friends. It’s never how much you spend on a present that matters it is the thought that goes into it because that always shines out so much more.

YUM YUM COOKIEEES. I wish I could bake more often… or cook more often. We recently renovated the entire kitchen, completely brand new everything from counters to cabinets to appliances. But I can’t even make use of it cause dad is such a hypocrite when it comes to cooking and we end up getting in trouble FOR cooking. Fail.
What are all those little specs on the shortbread? They’re totally the perfect touch of decoration! I like.
And you’ve got a biiig week… hope you have so much fun and come back safely to tell us all about it.

Hee, that’s a lot of cookies! I wonder what the green and red bits on them are made of though? I love baking (as opposed to cooking…) and I seem to have a long record of making things that use chocolate as their ingredient — bad habit, because there’s obviously lots of yummy cakes and tarts and things that don’t use chocolate!
I hope you have fun camping! I’ve always wanted to do the tent style camping, but I’m not the most hardy of persons

Those cookies are goooorgeous. They look perfect.
I hope you had lots of fun this past week! I’ve always wanted to learn how to surf, but I’m pretty sure it’d go badly and I’d end up swallowing way too much salt water, heh.
